guidance that families with quirky children so desperately need, and offer advice on various
therapy     options, coping strategies, and available medications.

The Out of Sync Child: The Out-of-Sync Child broke new ground by identifying Sensory
Processing Disorder, a common but frequently misdiagnosed problem in which the central nervous
system misinterprets messages from the senses. This newly revised edition features additional
information from recent research on vision and hearing deficits, motor skill problems, nutrition and
picky eaters, ADHA, autism, and other related disorders.

The Out Of Sync Child Has Fun: This companion volume to The Out-of-Sync Child presents
activities that parents of kids with Sensory Integration Dysfunction can do at home with their child to
strengthen their child's abilities-and have some fun together along the way.

The Challenge of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome: Overcoming Secondary Disabilities: It's a facile
but short-sighted policy to act as though FAS is an issue confined to children under 12 years old,
or to women. There is no logical cutoff point in the population because innate disability -- physical
or mental -- interacts with social environments and shifting expectations in different ways
throughout a person's lifetime. Behaviors that are tolerable though worrisome at 11 become
unacceptable and criminal at 15, prosecutable at 18, thuggish at 40". -- Michael Dorris

In the first book of its kind, experts describe how to help people with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. A
summary of recent findings and recommendations is presented by the team who conducted the
largest study ever done on people of all ages with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Fetal Alcohol
Effects. Twenty-two experts from the fields of human services, education, and criminal justice
respond by describing their solutions to this problem of a birth defect that targets the brain and has
lifelong consequences.

Sensory Integration and Self-Regulation in Infants and Toddlers: Helping Very Young
Children Interact With Their Environment:

of practitioners who support the development of infants and young children in a broad array of
settings -- including child care, Head Start and Early Head Start, early intervention, neonatal
intensive care follow-up, developmental clinics, infant mental health centers, and child life
programs. The authors integrate and synthesize knowledge from the fields of occupational therapy,
neuroscience, child development, psychology, psychiatry, education, and the movement sciences
to help readers: understand the sensory development of infants and young children; learn about
assessment and intervention approaches designed to promote very young children's self-
